Be Captivated with Purpose

I stumbled upon a tweet by Bob Goff a while back that really hit home. It said, "we won't be distracted by comparison if we're captivated with purpose."

Sometimes I get so caught up with what other people are up to on social media that I lose focus of my own purpose. My purpose to love God, love others and be thankful for each blessing, no matter how small.

Today, I'm thankful for a pretty uneventful oral surgery to remove my wisdom tooth. I was told there was a slight chance there'd be minor nerve damage but all went well... thank the Lord for painkillers!

I did a some lettering over the weekend in anticipation of the surgery  and am finding it quite therapeutic to do these that it might just be what I need to speed up the healing process!

Every now and then, I will offer some of my original work free for download -images, printables, desktop/smartphone wallpapers, etc. I'm still learning as I go in this graphic design/lettering world, but my motto is that practice makes progress. And practice will inevitably lead to a lot of completed work that will just sit and collect digital dust unless I share them with others. Although the pieces/designs may not be perfect, I hope they will still encourage and inspire. I've learned that some things don't have to be perfect to be shared.  Done is better than perfect.

Proverbs 31 has always been one of my favorite passages. Even as I have wavered in my faith the past few years, the epilogue describing the wife of noble character is something I'm constantly striving towards as a woman of God, and as a wife. Obviously some of the examples  are a bit outdated, but there is still a lot of practical wisdom and encouragement that can be taken away from the passage.

A few years ago after I lost my job, I had started a personal blog with the intention of using it to encourage other women and used this verse as my "tag line". I wanted to remind my girlfriends and sisters in Christ that we are worth far more than rubies. We have so much to offer, even though many times we don't believe it of ourselves. At that time, however, I did not believe it of myself -- I felt the complete opposite. If I had to be honest with myself, I was the one that needed this constant reminder of worth. Needless to say, the blog was quickly abandoned.

Today, it's with God's grace that I have a renewed faith and hope for the future - that I have so much to offer but the only eyes that I need to impress are those up above.

Hello World!

Hi Friends!

Thanks so much for taking time to stop by and check out my new digs on the world wide web. It's been a long time coming, as I first bought this domain about a year ago! Back then, I hadn't discovered hand lettering/modern calligraphy yet but once I got into the groove of it a few months ago, I knew I had to incorporate my lettering into the site (see the header logo? I wrote that!).

I had many ideas brewing in my brain as far as layout and design was concerned but struggled with translating that onto the page. At first, I signed up with Weebly but the designs and options were limiting and I kept getting stuck. I really didn't want to pay someone to create a template for me as I've done in the past because I wanted this site to be simple! Finally, I decided to check out Squarespace, which I've recommended to others after hearing fellow bloggers rave about it - but wasn't sure I wanted to commit as it's pricier than other platforms. Well, what do you know - the price is worth it! I'm still learning all the different features, but the templates are clean, simple and sleek - and easy to use. It's kinda fun seeing my vision come to life!

If you don't know me in real life, or haven't spoken to me in say, the past 6 months then you might want to take a moment to read about how I got here.  I'll wait for you to get back. ;)

This site is a culmination of all of my creative interests as well as a space for me to muse about my faith and just everyday life.  In my past blogging life, I often felt limited because baking/desserts is such a specific niche. I didn't think people cared to read about my personal life because it was supposed to be a blog about sweets! I know now, that's not true at all - even so, that volume of my life has ended. Now, onto volume two.

I hope you'll come back and visit me in my new "home". I can't wait to share more of what I've been working on and eventually share stories from my travels in Asia the past year. Thanks for stopping by!
