Fan Favorite Friday ~ Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Chocolate crinkle cookies have always caught my eye but I've actually never tasted them before, so when I saw them popping up on Foodgawker, I thought it was about time I try them out for myself.  Plus, they look like the perfect winter holiday cookie, being tossed in powdered sugar and all...

I have to start reading through recipes completely before I save them because it seems I am stumbling upon more recipes that require chilling the dough before baking... although these are a completely different cookie from the last Fan Favorite, they required chilling as well - and for 2-3 hours (or overnight)!? I don't know about these pastries that have to chill... there's something about baking that's appealing because there's that "reward" or gratification for all your hard work in putting the ingredients together, and stirring/mixing... but then, to have to wait hours to get to the final product?  It better be worth it...

Ok, maybe I'm being a little dramatic - this dough was actually really simple to put together - I didn't even have to turn on my Kitchenaid stand mixer.  I just used my favorite Pourfect bowls and a good ol' whisk and spatula.  No photos of the mixing process - it wasn't anything exciting... just melting chocolate chips, sifting flour and beating eggs.  When everything is incorporated, the cookie "dough" actually looks more like a cake batter - pretty runny and not what you would think a cookie dough should look like.  Now, I see the reason for chilling...

And they are definitely worth the wait! These cookies are like a moist bite of brownie... the texture of it really threw me - for some reason, I was expecting a bit more crunch but this is definitely a cake-like cookie.  Which makes sense because of it's batter-like state before hardening up in the fridge.

My batch yielded about 4 dozen, while the recipe states 5 dozen - I started off making small balls, but in the end I got tired and started making them bigger... but they can still be popped in your mouth in one bite!  Ok, good thing I am giving most of these away, because I have already devoured three cookies in the last hour!

Denny, I hope you share them because they are quite addicting.... ;)
