Whew, I made it just in time for the #PieParty! Not to be confused with Pi Day (3.14) - this party is being hosted by a few lovely Twitter folk and even has its own Facebook event page! I believe the idea behind pie party was to encourage everyone to bake a pie. Most people tend to shy away from making pie because they're afraid (I was one of those people) to make the traditional flaky pie crust. Today, it didn't matter the type of crust, or the kind of pie you made...just make pie.
When I saw this peach and blueberry galette in Mowie Kay's new digital magazine last week, I knew I had to make them - what perfect timing! Galettes are my easy way out of making a real pie with a pretty fluted crust or lattice tops. They are a rustic pie - not as pretty, but just as delicious!
