I realize I'm a little backwards this week - posting the matcha mochi cake recipe first when I probably should have shared my thoughts about the new year ahead. Well, there's a good reason for it - I was stalling until my new blog design was ready to be revealed! There's still a few areas to spruce up but the major reason for the change is that I felt like I had outgrown the previous design with the cutesy birdy and tree filled with sweets. It also felt a bit cluttered and claustrophobic - if that's possible for a blog. There's just something about a simple, clean, organized site that draws me in as opposed to one with too many flashy gadgets, widgets, and slideshows. I realize most people read on their mobile devices or tablets these days so it probably doesn't really matter what the blog looks like. That's why I opted for simplicity but also a little color and pizzazz with the sprinkles.
Speaking of the sprinkles, I know it may be a bit girly or corny but a tagline is something I had always wanted but never really knew how to formulate in order to best describe my blog. As I shared late last year, I felt I needed to re-evaluate the purpose of this blog. Over the holidays, I took some time to reflect over the past year(s) and realized that I missed blogging and sharing about my baked goods. I also missed the days (way back in the day) where I kept an online journal and shared fun finds, or just what was going on in my everyday life. Although I will spare you from the mundane details of my life, I hope to intersperse the sweets/food posts with other types of posts - which I had started a bit through my series, Lil' Sweet Bites. And perhaps share more of my non-food photos like the one above. Looking back at the photos I took in 2013, I noticed that I didn't have many of people, or nature. That's definitely going to change for this year.
So, Sweets by Sillianah is here to stay - but with a little twist. I'll be back with more baking recipes - both gluten-free and gluten-full... but there will also be "other" posts. Even though I don't have it all clearly defined yet, hopefully, you have a better idea of where I'm taking this blog. If you decide to stick around to find out, I'll be happy to have you. But if you're only seeking baking recipes then I understand that this may not be for you. Many thanks to those of you that have journeyed with me this far...I'm looking forward to sharing more with you in 2014!
PS - I need to give a shout-out to Rekita, of Designed Lovely who designed my lovely new blog template (see what I did there? hehe) - she was super patient with all of my never-ending requests.
