An Update

If you’ve been following along with me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I've been sharing less calligraphy-focused posts and stories. When all of this started, I kind of went into survival mode, jumping right into virtual lessons and workshops. It also served as a distraction from grieving my grandfather, who passed away in Taiwan during that first week of the stay-at-home order. But as the days and weeks went on, with so much of the world hurting, calligraphy had simply become insignificant and uninspired. I found myself at a loss for words…unable to muster up any energy or excitement for calligraphy. What once brought comfort to the my soul was no longer sufficient in doing so.

During times of uncertainty and heartache, I naturally gravitate to food for comfort. My happiest memories from childhood involve food. Making and sharing food brings me joy and it's the reason I spent five years in the food blogging/baking world.

I shared some thoughts back in January about how I'd been struggling to find true rest and balance between work and play. I never thought it would take a pandemic to force me to truly rest and re-evaluate my work, life, everything.

While I miss the community and meeting new people through workshops, this sabbatical-of-sorts is giving me the time to figure out if I'll eventually get back to calligraphy or maybe explore new career/business opportunities.

As I figure things out, this space may start to look a little differently. I might share recipes, photos, music, or even hand-lettered designs if the inspiration ever strikes again. I’m not going to worry about SEO and zoning in on a niche for now. If there’s a commonality with everything I share/create, it’s the photography. I’ve come to realize that throughout my creative journey the last 10 years, I’ve always loved making and sharing photos even if it’s just with my camera phone. Who knows, maybe that’s something to explore. In the meantime, more ice cream! ;)
