Client Spotlight: Sézane's Mother's Day Event

This past Mother’s Day, I had the pleasure of participating in a special event at the lovely Parisian boutique, Sézane in New York City. For three days, I provided on-site calligraphy notes and cards for shoppers looking to add a personalized touch to their gifts for mom (and other special ladies in their life).

The Sézane experience is simply magical. Before you even step into the shop, you're greeted with a gorgeous floral display that's just begging to be photographed

Then, you're welcomed with delicious pastries by Maman, and the comfiest corner to relax and refresh.

Not only is the shop filled with the most beautiful collection of clothing, shoes, accessories, and stationery, there's also a free photo booth (by the fitting room) plus another seating area in the back!

Once shoppers completed their purchase, they were able to stop by my little set-up in the back for a complimentary card lettered by yours truly. I had a handful of ready-to-go cards, but clients were more than welcome to make special requests.

Although it was a bit nerve-wracking at times (oh the pressure of live lettering!), I had so much fun chatting with each person that stopped by those three days. I hope I was able to make everyone's Mother's Day just a tad more special this year! Thanks to Sézane for having me!

A Spring Bridal Shower for Ting [Highlights]

Earlier this spring, I received an inquiry for a bridal shower calligraphy workshop - and I couldn't have been more excited! I love that the bride chose to celebrate her nearest and dearest girlfriends with the gift of creativity!

I created personalized folders for each guest - complete with a watercolor name card and satin ribbon. Inside each folder contained alphabet exemplars, practice worksheets, blank paper, tracing paper and two blank 5x7 inch cards. Each guest also received a brush pen to use and take home.

I printed out blank cards with a watercolor floral frame to complement the occasion - some chose to letter messages of good wishes and congrats to the bride.

The calligraphy class came as a surprise to most of the guests so it was awesome to see how they dove right into learning and creating. Many of the ladies seemed to have a natural talent for calligraphy - we joked that it may have something to do with their profession as dentists!

Good food, drinks, friends, and calligraphy - I can't think of a better way to celebrate!

Thank you, Ting for allowing me to be a part of such a special day. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding - may your marriage be filled with much love and blessings!

Video | Valentine's Day Lettering on Macarons

Happy Valentine's Day, friends! I hope it's filled with lots of love and sweet treats! 💕

I've never been a big fan of this "holiday" but in recent years it's inspired me to tap into my creative side as a baker/blogger and now, a calligrapher.

Lately, I've been obsessed with these cookie/cake artists on Instagram that specialize in painting on treats using edible paints and markers - they even inspired me to host a holiday cookie painting/lettering workshop over the holidays!

Too bad my macaron-making days are long over - these are courtesy of Trader Joe's. They're surprisingly tastier than some of the ones I've had from local bakeries. Much cheaper, too.

So now that I've tried lettering on macarons, and fondant-covered sugar cookies, next on my bucket list is a cake. Any takers? ;)

Just for fun, here's a time-lapse video of the macaron painting/lettering process - over 10 minutes in real-time, condensed to about 40 seconds. Apologies for the weird lighting - I thought the sunlight would help show off the gold shimmer but it just ended up being overexposed in some parts.

I used "faux calligraphy" on these macs as they were on the smaller side, and I didn't trust the cheap-o craft detailer brushes I had on hand to create a clean, elegant look. The edible pen has two tips - one is a bullet tip and the other is like a fine liner. Worked liked a charm!
