As you may have guessed, I'm Lillian. Liming is my Chinese name as well as my middle name but it wasn’t until three years ago, right before I moved to Taiwan that I fully embraced this name. Loosely translated, Liming means “bright jasmine [flower]”.
I originally created this site in 2014 as a lifestyle blog to share my photographs, travels, and everyday musings while living in Taiwan and beyond. Even though I was born in Taiwan, living there for a year as a 30-something adult took some getting used to and ultimately, didn't leave much time and energy for blogging.
Although I've returned to New York, it was while in Taiwan that I discovered modern calligraphy and brush lettering. I came across this phenomenon on Instagram and was instantly hooked! I’ve always had a love for pretty and decorative handwriting and even dabbled in Italic calligraphy during my teen years. So being in the land of stationery, I found every brush pen I could and spent the entire hot & humid Taiwan summer learning and practicing brush calligraphy!
Hand lettering has truly opened a creative outlet for me and at the same time it has been emotionally and spiritually gratifying. Lettering encouraging quotes and scripture while living in a new (and foreign) place, helped renew my faith & hope that God has a bigger and better plan for me - a plan that will inevitably utilize one of the creative gifts He's blessed me with.
As I navigate through this messy, creative journey, I hope to share my lettered pieces with you as well as other pieces of my life and get back to the original intention of this site. But if you're here just for the lettering stuff, that's okay, too - I'm just happy you're here!
God can do anything — far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! - Ephesians 3:20 MSG
