{Notably NOLA} Pt. 2 ~ The Savory

If you've ever been to New Orleans, then you'll recognize these bright and colorful homes in the French Quarter.  Hubs and I walked by many of these cute houses while looking for a lunch spot our first day in NOLA.

It was fun to see the different colors people chose to paint their houses - they made the long walk to lunch quite fascinating...

Eat  900 Dumaine St.

Eat, is a quaint little spot a little bit out of the ways in the main French Quarter, but still walk-able.  I read on a few sites, including fellow NYC blog, High/Low Food/Drink (thanks Andrea!) that it was the best restaurant in New Orleans for brunch.  However, they only serve brunch on the weekends.  Being that we were only going to be there for two days during the week, we decided to check it out for lunch.

Upon being seated, we were presented with a sheet of paper - their menu.  I was actually kind of nervous deciding what to order.  The items listed on the menu didn't include elaborate descriptions or photos so it really depends on what you were in the mood for.  Hubs decided to go with the crawfish pie, while I went for the chicken fried chicken.  We also ordered the fried green tomato remoulade as a starter. Ya can't get more Southern than that, right?

We were completely blown away with each dish! Everything - from the salad, to even the sides - was bursting with flavor.  Although the menu may have looked unassuming, the food was phenomenal!  I'm not much of a food critic, so all I can say is that you will not be disappointed with your choices - the portions were just right - not too big, not too small.  We felt like we got what we paid for, and more.  

We decided to skip dessert - as we had some sweet eats waiting for us on our itinerary. [next post!]

Parkway Bakey & Tavern - 538 Hagan Ave.

The only other meal we had, that's worth blogging about, were the po-boys at the Parkway Bakery & Tavern.  I had seen it being recommended by a few celebrity chefs on Twitter, so I knew it had to be good!  You'll definitely need a car for this restaurant as it's way out of the French Quarter and beyond the streetcar routes.  It's definitely worth the trip - we stopped here before heading out on our drive to Pensacola!

Needless to say, we were stuffed after this meal and ready for the next part of our trip...
