I skipped posting last week to celebrate my birthday, and also because I felt like all of my garden photos were starting to look the same lol. So this week’s photos are a compilation from the last couple of weeks.

It’s hard to believe there are only about 6 weeks left in the growing season (here in zone 6b), yet the dahlias are just starting to take off! As of now (the last week of August), 3 of my 6 dahlia plants have bloomed - the latest one being this pretty mauve-y Rock Run Ashley dahlia.

I’ve really enjoyed making weekly bouquets with all the blooms from the garden - I even sold a custom bouquet last week! ;)

The apricot aster finally bloomed! The sole surviving plant from the spring flood is putting out lots of blooms but they don’t look much like “apricot” to me. I had to stake them because these summer rains have been rough on my plants. Not sure I’ll grow these again - they take too long to bloom and there are so many other mesmerizing flowers!

I prepared my first batch of calendula-infused oil a couple weeks ago - look at all that goodness, excited to turn this into calendula salve! I’m still taking pre-orders, but all orders after August 20th will be shipped in the October batch.

Even though the gardening season is almost over, the weather is finally comfortable enough to actually enjoy the garden while everything is in full bloom. I felt pretty burnt out the past month from the intense heat, getting bitten by mosquitoes and stung by a bumblebee (my fault for trying to deadhead flowers at 8pm, while it was just trying to tuck in for the night lol)! The gardening meme showing gardeners repeatedly smacked by a truck was pretty relatable (sorry, can’t find the video).

Now, I can slow down and notice the various garden visitors: sleeping bees, tiny toads, and the butterflies (they are super flighty this year, my goal is to capture at least one photo before the season is over)!
